A buyer's checklist for EUDR compliance systems

Thirty questions, grouped by the part of the problem they test. Tick them off in a demo. The ones a vendor answers vaguely are the ones that will cost you in an inspection.

The three answers that should end the conversation. "We guarantee compliance." No vendor can. The operator assumes legal responsibility when the statement is submitted. "Certification covers the geolocation requirement." It does not. Certification feeds the risk assessment; it does not replace Article 9 information. "You don't need to see the imagery, just the verdict." The imagery and reasoning are your defence in a check. A verdict you cannot substantiate is worth nothing.

How to run the evaluation

  1. Bring your own data. A demo on the vendor's tidy sample dataset tells you nothing. Bring a real supplier list, real coordinates, including the messy ones, and a real consignment.
  2. Ask for a failure. Have them show you a plot that fails screening and walk through what happens next. How a system handles the exceptions is the whole job; the happy path is easy.
  3. Test the retrieval, not the entry. Ask them to produce everything behind a filing made three months ago, as an inspector would. That is the query that matters.
  4. Involve procurement early. The system has to make unmapped supply visible at the point of buying, or mapped and unmapped material bulks together anyway.
