Why only coffee

The regulation covers seven commodities, and most tools try to serve all of them. Coffee has its own problems: thousands of smallholder parcels per contract, tree cover that is part of the crop rather than a warning sign, and pruning and replanting rhythms that generic tools misread as deforestation. Building for one commodity means every screen, every threshold and every sentence of guidance can assume coffee.

How the screening works

Every plot is screened through WHISP, the open analysis developed under FAO's Open Foris, against the EU's own 2020 forest map and the satellite loss datasets the EU recognises, joined by national records where they exist. The screening concludes where the data lets it, and holds the plot for review where it does not, with the reason written out. The determination itself stays where the regulation puts it: with the operator. Konstata never auto-clears what the data cannot support, and never fails a plot on a signal a person has not seen.

What Konstata is not

Not legal advice: obligations should be verified against the consolidated EUDR text on EUR-Lex. And not a traffic light that promises certainty the satellite record cannot carry. The product is built on the position that an honest "held for review, here is why" protects an operator better than a green light it cannot defend.
